STAAR Redesign Practice
Now that we have talked about the question types in depth…. You might be thinking, “How will my students practice this and when will we have time for them to learn this?” Don’t stress! I’ve got you!
1. WHERE can my students practice?
The state has set up a way for students to get online and practice this on the cambium platform, so that they can get familiar. Here is the link to the online platform. You will definitely want to play around with this before you have students on it. I have recorded a video below to walk you through the tools and the question types with what implications I have noticed.

2. WHEN do I have students practice this??
Don’t freak out! There are some very practical ways to add this into what you are already doing. One genius team I talked to recently had a great idea. They have a piece of paper with a QR code of the practice platform on it. They are having students practice 5 questions per week during station time. They are not only having them practice it, they are also having students practice showing their work on paper by sectioning off their paper after each problem they complete. the students started off at a small group so that their accommodations were correct and students were clear on the tools to avoid confusion. Students will continue doing 5 questions per week until they have done all of the questions. This provides such a great opportunity for students to work independently and for teachers to gather data in order to help with content implications and any technology implications that might arise so that there is still plenty of time to address it.
