Making Math Visual

It’s time for the next 5 week series. This one is all things problem solving.

You may have seen my video about key words. If you didn’t, find it here.

There are many things we can do that are short term solutions and not getting to the root of the issue. If you have students that:

  • Don’t know where to start on tough word problems

  • Choose the wrong operation consistently

  • Can’t tell you what happened in the problem

  • Are just stuck

You can first start with visualizing and teaching students some concrete strategies that help them see the story in their mind. Here are two lessons that can get you started.

@danifrymath When students struggle to problem solve, we can analyze their behaviors and find a concrete strategy they can use to help them through such an abstract process. #teachersoftiktok #teachers #math #mathteacher #mathteachers #mathteachersoftiktok ♬ original sound - Dani Fry

Come back next week for lessons and resources for taking visualizing to paper. It’s really the step in between visualizing and solving. I think it is the key part that a lot of students are missing. You won’t want to miss it.
